Standing out from the crowd

Aim:

To create eye-catching marketing communications which stand out and spark interest.

Approach:

With retail mailers adopting the same or similar brochure formats, many brands ask us how they can differentiate their brochures using special finishes. We take the brief and budget and develop a menu of fully costed extras such as foil, embossing, spot UV and a variety of laminates. We provide print samples to clients to help their decision making.

Results:

We have had some very happy clients this season who have invested in special finishes and have been delighted with the result, be it improving brand perception, creating doormat impact or positive feedback from their clients.

Tailored for Charles Tyrwhitt

Aim:

To increase page selling space and reduce paper wastage.

Approach:

Brochure formats adopted by brands are usually well optimised for postage criteria, but not necessarily for print production. The cylinder circumference of the press is fixed and where a format is not fully utilising the press in terms of ink on paper, the excess paper is cut to waste.

We highlighted for Charles Tyrwhitt that there was an opportunity on one of their customer brochures to  increase the height of the book by 30mm, to fully utilise the reel and paper otherwise being cut to waste and in turn, increase selling space.

Results:

An 12.5% increase in selling space. The new format offered the brand the potential to change the layout and add more sales copy, or increase the number of featured products per page. Or from time-to-time, to offer a change of pace within the brochure programme.

Increasing selling space for Pure Collection

Aim:

To optimise the brochure format to achieve the maximum selling space within the Small Letter postal bracket under 100g.

Approach:

The client’s current recruitment format was very cost effective, but did not fully utilise the 100g postage weight band. We suggested migrating to a lighter, yet bulky paper which would deliver an extra 16 selling pages within the 100g threshold.   We researched the grades available, supplied paper dummies and printed samples to the client. We also suggested a perfect bound book to add extra rigidity to the brochure and ring the changes.

Results:

The new format was rolled out and is being used successfully for recruitment and reactivation. It delivers 20% more selling space for c. 11% extra cost. The perfect binding is considered more premium and brings the recruitment book more in-line with the look and feel of their Main Book.

Cooking up customers for Steamer Trading

Aim:

To develop a direct mail offer as part of a new CRM programme, to better nurture the customer with more frequent offers and support aggressive sale targets.

Approach:

Having extensive experience in producing successful direct mail campaigns for a range of brands, we were able to work with a budget to develop a number of concepts, each fully-costed with options for extra finishing, involvement devices and personalisation. We supplied visual dummies for each concept so the client could get a real sense of the look and feel of each idea. Once the final concept was chosen, we supplied technical laydowns for the pack elements to ensure artwork was supplied correctly and managed the whole production process from receipt of artwork through to mailing release.

Results:

Response to the test mailing significantly exceeded the client’s expectations in terms of response and ROI. It was successful in engaging lapsing customers and driving store footfall and has subsequently rolled out with further mailing concepts being developed.

A personal touch

Aim:

To develop a voucher-led mailing concept to send to top customers, offering a more personal touch than the regular postcard mailer with the opportunity for extra laser personalisation.

Approach:

We developed a number of ideas for the client, offering a variety of format sizes and personalisation options, being mindful that we needed to meet the specification criteria for full Mail Mark discounts. We provided extra costs for special finishes such as metallics, spot UV and die-cut shapes to feed into their design ideas.

Results:

Silver metallic ink was used on the mailer giving the piece a premium feel. It was well received by the customer offering something a little different from their usual Charles Tyrwhitt brochure offers. The concept is being used again next season to follow up their season launch.
